Butterfly Guard: Cocoon Claw
I start from the B-fly Guard with a Modified Cocoon Control. I am using sort of a wrestling collar tie to control my opponents upper body.
One hand is at his neck, the other is gripping his tricep and I control his forearm by pinching it to my ribs. I started doing the Cocoon this way when I was teaching the position to someone who had a real strong wrestling background.
From the Cocoon as taught in Mastering the Rubber Guard they were powering up to their feet to get out. So I changed it a little bit and it has been working great.
There are a number of techniques from this position on the site and you can hit all the sweeps from MTRG as well.
Starting from the Modified Cocoon with a strong collar tie and control of his right arm I first...
Undo your b-fly hooks and put your feet on his hips. You want to pull his upper body toward you with a tight collar tie and push his hips away with your feet.
From there you release your left foot and bring it over his shoulder while pushing his face away with your right hand. You want to still control his tricep and your right foot should still be at his hip.
Next you will pivot on your butt by straightening out your left leg so that you end up at Jiu Claw.
As you are pivoting you want to cross your ankles to lock his shoulder in place. Also you need to control his right wrist with your right hand as your left arm checks his legs to control him if he tries to roll out.
From this angle you can see that I have a nice tight collar tie, my feet are at his hips and then...
You bring your left leg over his shoulder while pushing him away with your right foot. Your right hand goes from his neck to pushing his face away and you are still controlling his tricep with your left hand.
Then you pivot on your butt and end up at Jiu Claw. From here you could sit up and finish the Omoplata, you could shift onto your right side with the Lockdown on his arm and make him roll or you could scoot your butt back and take his back just to name a few things...
