Butterfly Guard: Hook Sweep
From the B-fly Guard I am using the Modified Cocoon Control. The Collar Tie that I am using is similar to a wrestling collar tie. It gives you great control of your opponents upper body from this position.
Instead of controlling your opponent with an over and underhook you are going to control their neck with one hand and their tricep with the other while pinching their arm to your side.
I kind of changed the Cocoon on the fly when I was teaching the position to someone with a strong wrestling background who was powering up to their feet.
There is a series of sweeps from this position when your opponent stands up one leg at a time. This is the first, look for the others coming soon!
Here I am starting from the Modified Cocoon with my head tight to his head and collar bone. I have my hooks in with upward and outward pressure.
Next my opponent starts to stand up with his right leg. I keep my left hook glued to his inner knee as well as my right. You have to keep a nice strong Collar Tie as he tries to stand also.
As he tries to stand with his left leg you put your back to the mat and pull hard on the Collar Tie as you lift him with your hooks.
Once he is airborne you pull his right tricep down as you lift your right hook up and get the sweep landing in the mount.
