Full Guard: GUILLOTINE !

The Guillotine, like the Cross Lapel Choke in BJJ is one of the first techniques that you learn and one that can take a lifetime to master. Recently there have been a couple of innovations to this classic technique that are virtually impossible to escape from.

The videos above go through the grip variations for both the Arm-In Guillotine as well as a regular Guillotine that will increase your finish rate once you have your technique down.

In the first video Matt Arroyo, TUF veteran explains the grip that Marcelo Garcia is using for the no-arm technique which he has felt around his neck first hand. He explains how Marcelo is able to finsih the choke from a variety of positions without even having his legs locked up in Full Guard.

In the second video Robson Moura goes over a variation that I learned from Tait Fletcher back at 10th Planet HQ that I call the Extreme Guillotine. Basically it is an arm-in guillotine but you get your opponent's arm across his body so that they cannot defend themselves.

In the third video instead of a Ball & Socket grip for the AIG you use a Reverse Gable Grip. I have found that the best way to finish the choke is to squeeze your arms into your chest and rotate your grip by bringing your right elbow up. This is the opposite direction from what Jacen demonstrates in the video.
