Half Guard: Prison Break
The Prison Break is a defense to the Lockdown. I learned this at 10th Planet Hollywood. Eddie taught this one day in class but he never gave it a name so I call it the Prison Break.
He has since named it the 'Buttock Compressor.'
When you are caught in your opponent's Lockdown it is very important that you defend against it first before you attempt to pass your opponent's guard. If you do not free your leg from the Lockdown you will be risking damage to your knee.
Here Jason Mallory is caught in Patrik Bogyo's Lockdown and Patrik has double underhooks.
Here I put my left forearm across my opponent's neck.
Next I drive my forearm into his neck and sit my weight back. This will force his arms to pop open.
Once his arms pop open I lock both arms under his legs and post my head on the mat tight to his body so he cannot go for a Guillotine. You can Gable grip your hands under his legs but I like to use the Ball & Socket grip.
Make sure your opponent does not get an arm in during the transition from step 3 to step 4. If he gets his left arm in he can go for the 100% sweep.
Once your hands are locked you do a back kick the break open the Lockdown. This has to be in one hard, fast motion.
After your leg is free you step it around to the hip opposite your head while keep your hands locked.
Then you swim your left hand behind your opponent's neck and ....
Establish Side Control.
