Half Guard: Short Cut



When you have the Lockdown on your opponent you have a number of sweeps available. If your opponent gets head & arm control then it makes it more difficult to get the sweeps.

First you have to gain double underhooks on your opponent before you can go for any of the sweeps.

If you are not able to get the underhooks you still have options. You can use this Stomp variation to get to Butterfly Guard. Or, you can take a Short Cut and go straight to the Full Guard.








Short Cut

I have Patrik Bogyo in my Half Guard with the Lockdown on but he has Head & Arm control.

First you get a strong overhook with your left arm and Pimp Arm with your right arm.

Next you release the Lockdown by unhooking your right foot and crossing it over your opponent's trapped leg.

Now you take your left leg out and plant it on the mat. Makes sure to keep your opponent's right leg trapped with your right foot.

While maintaining your arm positions use your left foot on the mat to help you hip out onto your right side.

Next drop your right hand down to your opponent's left knee as you bring your right knee up past your opponent's left leg.
