Half Guard: Super Stomp Variation
This Super Stomp variation is something that I came up with because of the knee problems that I have. It actually is a solid technique that allows you to have control all the way through the transition to the Cocoon.
I made a change to the way that I was doing the Cocoon so that it was more like a wrestling collar tie. I saw a video where Eddie Bravo has done a similar thing but the way that he is doing it controls your opponent's posture even better than the way I was doing it so I switched. You will see what I am talking about below.
Starting with Patrik Bogyo HG with the Lockdown in, Jason Mallory has an overhook with his left arm and the Pimp Arm on his opponent's hip...
While maintaining the overhook and the pimp arm you let go of the lockdown and hook your right leg over your opponent's trapped leg.
After that you take your left leg out and plant it on the mat. Still holding a tight overhook and pimp arm.
Next you use your left foot on the mat to hip out in order to creat space to get your left butterfly hook in. As you do this I make sure to keep your opponent's right leg trapped with your right leg.
I had to add this extra little step because I cannot bend my knees due to injuries.
Now you can get your left butterfly hook in while doing a leg curl with your right leg to keep your opponent's leg trapped.
Now you kick your legs straight out while you push your opponent's hip with the pimp arm and hold the left overhook tight and ...
Come up to the Cocoon.
Then you swim your right right arm from the underhook to control yor opponent's neck.
I changed the way that I do the Cocoon from an overhook and underhook to a wrestling style collar tie. I recently saw a video where Eddie Bravo has done the same.
I was doing the collar tie with my head tight to my opponent's head with the hand on the neck and the overhook but the way that Eddie was doing it, like in the picture above, breaks the opponent's posture better. This way gives you even more control so I made this adjustment to the Cocoon.
From this angle you can see I have the lockdown in. (Sorry for the butt angle).
Here you let go of the lockdown and trap your right leg over your opponent's leg.
Then slip your left leg out and place it on the mat while doing a leg curl with your right leg.
Now you can hip out to create space for your butterfly while keeping your opponent's leg trapped with your right leg curl.
Now you put your hook in...
Then kick your legs straight out while pushing the pimp arm and holding the overhook...
And then control your opponent's posture with the overhook and the hand at the neck.
