The Fighter's Arsenal contributor, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and Pro MMA fighter Jacen Flynn describes how to perform the Cabbage Patch Assist Armbar.
This technique got it's name because it mimics the arm movement of the Cabbage Patch dance move. The technique was developed to increase Back Control efficiency by offering a new series of flows from the Lazy Boy position. This is one of Jacen's Back Control techniques that gives practitioners extra options once they have achieved Back Control. This version of the Cabbage Patch Assist flow describes how to go from the Lazy Boy Back Control position to the Spider Web and finally ending with an armbar.
Step 1: Place opponent into the lazy boy position.
Step 2: Secure the harness grip. Remember your under arm always grabs your over arm.
Step 3: Using an outward rotating motion move you opponent's defending arm to outside your knee.
Step 4: Release grip and reach under your own leg to trap your opponent's arm.
Step 5: Switch your feet to the outside and move your head to the opposite side.
Step 6: Threaten with the choke. When your opponent defends the choke grab their wrist.
Step 7: Keeping arm control, clear the neck.
Step 8: Grab your opponent's leg and bring your leg over their head, pinning it to the ground.
Step 9: Cross your feet and pinch down on your opponent's trapped arm.
Step 10: Keep the pinch tight on your opponent's arm and cross your feet.
Step 11: Lean back and to the side to achieve the armbar.
