Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and Pro MMA fighter Jacen Flynn describes how to perform his version of a rear naked choke, coined the "Strep Choke", in combination with a Triangle Body Lock.
This technique got it's unique name do to the fact that after practicing several students complained of having a sore throat. Since this soreness resembled the pain caused by the Strep virus the move was coined "Strep Choke". Unlike a standard rear naked choke which relies mainly on squeezing the sides of the opponent's neck using your bicep and chest, the Strep Choke utilizes the bigger stronger muscles of the shoulders, lats and back. If done properly this choke will bring about a submission far faster than a traditional rear naked choke and will not cause the same kind of muscle fatigue because it utilizes larger muscle groups. Along with his Strep Choke Jacen has added a Triangle Body Lock to give even more control over your opponent.
Special notes:
- When securing your harness grip remember to protect your wrist by covering as much as you can with your hand.
- As soon as you lay your opponent on the pillow lock the body triangle to prevent them from rolling out of back control.
- Be sure to pull both elbows straight back. Don't pull to one side or you will create space and the choke will not work.
- Be sure to use your back and shoulders to do the work. That will prevent muscle fatigue in your arm.
- Go easy on your partner because this choke can be brutal.
