Leg Locks: Jiu Claw Heel Hook

The Jiu Claw Heel Hook is a Leg Lock that is real sneaky and a re-counter to a common counter to the Jiu Claw position.

When someone is in the Jiu Claw position they feel like they can cut their knee across your body to escape the position. This is the wrong thing to do because they are setting themselves up for a Heel Hook.

It doesn't seem like you should be in a good position to get the Heel Hook from the bottom without any structure to the lock but be careful when you do this one with your training partners because you can pop their knee before ever completing the technique from the top position.

The persons weight on the knee is what secures the position for you to get the submission. Picked this up at 10th Planet Hollywood.

Once you get to the Jiu Claw position you want to block your opponent's legs with your left arm, drive their right wrist towards their body with you right arm and keep the Lockdown tight on their shoulder while being slightly more on your right hip.

It's possible to finish the Heel Hook from this position by keeping the grip tight and twisting your upper body to the right. Be careful with this. At this point if your grip is tight your training partner will be feeling a lot of pressure on their knee if it doesn't pop first.

Jiu Claw Heel Hook

A common way to defend the Heel Hook at this point is for your opponent to try to back step their left leg over. All this does is make the heel hook worse. What you do is keep your grip tight and roll with your opponent until ...

You get the top position. If you haven't torn their knee out during the roll to the top position you will when you ...

Jiu Claw Heel Hook

Look to your right and twist your upper body with a tight Gable Grip. The transition has to be quick from the last step of reaching the top position to finishing the heel hook because ...

1. In the last step you are in danger of taking a knee to the dome and getting knocked out.

2. If you do not finish the heel hook you will have to secure side mount FAST because you do not have any control of your opponent at this point.
