Mount: Columbian Necktie

The Columbian Necktie is one of the first no-gi techniques that I developed while sparring.

At first I was trying to do a kind of Americana with wrist control behind their head. You can sometimes get the tap but you have to really crank the persons shoulder in a weird angle. A person with flexible shoulders can often survive this submission attempt.

One day while sparring I was going for the wrist control Americana when I saw an opening through the persons arm. So, I stuck my other arm through, made a fist and got the tap.

Later I started doing the choke as you see in the pictures below. Sometimes you cannot grab your tricep to finish the choke. In those cases I go back to a fist in the throat to get the tap.

Columbian Necktie

I start from the Gansta Lean. My left knee is up near Bence's head which helps to trap his right arm in place. My weight is off to his right side but I am pinning his left arm down at the same time with my weight. My right foot is tight to his left hip with the weight of my knee dropping down on his sternum.

Columbian Necktie

From here I feed his left arm to my left hand that is under his neck. This can be fight to trap the wrist. Sometimes I will go to the full mount at this point so that I have more leverage to trap his wrist.

Columbian Necktie

Here I am at the full mount ready to feed my right arm through for the choke.

Columbian Necktie

Now my right arm is across Bence's neck and I am grabbing my left tricep. At this point I squeeze my arms and drop my right elbow towards the mat to get the tap.

Columbian Necktie

From this angle you can see Bence's trapped left arm. I slide my right arm under Bence's left elbow and ...

Columbian Necktie

I have my arm through, I'm grabbing my own tricep and squeezing everything tight. The only other thing that I need to do is drop my right elbow to the mat. This is and extremly forceful choke so be careful with your training partners.

Make sure you maintain good base so that you do not get swept onto your back with both of your arms tied up in the choke.
