Side Mount: Can Opener

Here is a nice little technique from the Side Mount. Sometimes it is the small details that make the difference. This is not a flashy technique that will end up on a highlight reel but this is some real solid BJJ.

Oh, and sorry for the guys in the gi but this is some good stuff ;)

In the video he calls the technique a 'can opening technique' so I'm going to go with it.

This is for when you have your opponent in Side Control but they have their arms T-Rexed on their chest for defense. While staying tight to your opponent with your weight driving into them you will use your shoulder to pry his arms open allowing you to get a good solid Side Control.

He goes over a couple variations in the video. The first one is top notch. Great for no-gi. The only thing I do different is after his arm passes my head I lock up the Head & Arm control.

I never worked the second option before. My thoughts from watching the video is that you would have problems maintaining control of your opponent without the gi. I will have to play around with it to see.
