Side Mount: SMKS Triangle

The SMKS Triangle is a nice setup from Side Mount. The first you thing you want to do is establish a solid Head & Arm control.

From H & A control you are going to go to the knee on stomach position. Without the gi which gives you many grips to help you control your opponent you really have to have a strong H & A control and drive your knee up into their solar plexis.

Once you are at this position you have to wait for your opponents reaction before you can go for the Triangle. If they use their near arm to block your hip closest to their head then you may want to go for the Full Mount instead.

If your opponent uses their near arm to try to relieve the pressure of your knee in their gut then that is the time to go for the Triangle. As long as there is a clear path for your supporting leg then you can hit the Triangle.

The Knee on the Stomach position is not one that I use often in my no-gi game. I feel that it gives your opponent too much space and an opportunity to put you in their Half Guard, Full Guard or Open Guard.

If their forearm is weak and they are not blocking your hip effectively then ...

You step your supporting leg over their shoulder. As you do this you will drop to your butt and roll ...

To your back with your legs in the Triangle position.

From here you can raise your hips in order to pass their arm to the opposite side of your body and then ...

You can finish the submission.
