The Russian Ankle Pic is a really nice option off of the Russian 2-on-1 tie up. In the video above Gene Mills demonstrates the techniques and does a great job of explaining what he does when doing the technique and why.
The placement of your foot, which Gene goes over in detail is key. You have to keep a nice tight clinch on the two on one. This is going to help you control your opponent's upper body and posture.
After Gene has the ankle trapped with his foot he lowers his level and drops his weight on his opponent's shoulder. By doing this it brings him right down to his opponent's foot so that he does not have to overextend to get the ankle. Once he has the ankle it's all over.
