Leg Locks: Ankle Lock

Click Here to pick up Reilly's DVD

The Ankle Lock was one of the first leg attacks that I learned when I was training BJJ. Like most people I did the technique from the seated position and arched back to get the tap.

The other way that I would do the technique was to roll to my side. If I trapped my opponents right foot with my left arm I would roll onto my left side and then arch my back to get the tap.

I would get the tap a high percentage of the time but it was essentially a pain submission. There are also a few ways to counter the tech.

I recently saw this variation of the technique which has changed the way that I do Ankle Locks. This is no joke. We are talking about breaking the persons ankle.

Instead of rolling to the same side as the trapped leg you go to the opposite side which gives you more control and makes the ankle break possible.

If the person tries to roll out they will just make things worse.
