Takedowns: Flying Electric Chair aka Ride the Lightning
In this video Jeff Barney of 8th Street Gym demonstrates a 'Flying Electric Chair.' He also calls it the 'Ride the Lightning Sweep.' Jeff and I exchanged emails and he asked me if I had seen his new sweep and I was like 'no, send me a link.' When I saw the tech I was like 'SWEET, why didn't I think of that.'
What Jeff is doing is going from over/under when standing, taking a step back to draw his opponent's foot to him and then trapping the leg like he is going for a trip. But what he does is do a Lockdown on the leg, drop his weight as he reaches under his opponent's other leg.
As soon as he lands the momentum of the drop is taking him right to the top position so he can get to side control.
I would just caution people to really be careful with your training partners. The Lockdown can break a knee from the Electric Chair by itself. With the added energy from the drop I can see some knees gettin' torn out already !
